Itinerary For Ausangate Trekking

Day 1: Cusco Pikillacta Then Pikillacta To Tinki Cusco Peru

We pick you up at 7:30 am then we ride our car to the south of Cusco city and arrive at the famous water fountains called Tipon Inca site located at 3550 masl (11,646ft) and also see the amazing Inca farming terraces, and then we go to a pre-Inca stone village named Pikillacta located at 3250 masl (10,662).

Afterward, we have some lunch along the road with amazing views to the Andes mountains and then we ride our car to Tinki living culture people village for the overnight located at 4000 masl (13,123ft)

Day 2: Tinki To Upis

After some good breakfast, we start our trek to the camp of Upis (4,400 m.a.s.l.) so during the trek, we pass by the ecological landscape of Quinsapucyu and the mountain Huarmisaya to the camp of Upis so here we have some lunch.

Then, we have the opportunity to freely explore the surrounding area with the mystical of the thermal lakes and the uniqueness of its glaciers. All this environment develops around the Apu Ausangate beautiful mountain and it will last in your memories forever.

Day 3: Upis To Pukaccocha

After some breakfast, we start our trek and climb through covered broken rocks with mosses and lichens, and we arrive at the Pass of Arapa (4,958 masl) from there we can see the forest stone so from here we see the Ausangate and the chain of mountains.

Afterward, we descend and camp near the lagoon Pukacocha (located at 4,510 masl) and  means in Quechua word  “Red Lagoon” and in this place, we see some Inca people living in typical houses made of stone walls and thatched roofs

Day 4: Pukaccocha To Qampa

After breakfast, we begin our ascent to our second pass called Apacheta 4855 masl (15,928ft). So from here, we will have different angles views to  this snow-capped Ausangate famous mountain.

And then, we descend to have lunch near a lake called Ausangate Cocha ( located at 4,680 masl).

And afterward, we hike uphill to the third pass so this pass is the highest of our entire trip and it’s called the Open Palomani 5,200 masl (15,928ft),  and then, we go downhill into Pampacancha (4,500 masl) and then  we go to our camp named Qampa located at 4,650 masl (15,255 ft)

Day 5: Qampa To Qomerccocha With Pachaspata

After breakfast, we start our trek watching giant glaciers and huge ice blocks that are part of the mount-snow Qolque Cruz (Silver Cross).

Then, we hike to the lagoon Ticllacocha and then we cross the last pass called Qampa (5000 masl) and see some piled stone called in Quechua “Apachetas” do one as well for the best wishes and then we go pampas of Pachaspata; where we camp on the banks of Lake Qomercocha “Green Lake”  located 4,580 masl( 15,912ft).

Day 6: Pachaspata To Pachanta

After breakfast, we get ready to keep hiking, and see more lagoons on the way; which they shine through the clear waters and vegetation so the brightness of these lakes makes mystical groups visit these places and the Andean priests perform ceremonies on behalf of Mother Earth.

Then, we keep hiking and pass through meadows and find various shepherds with their llamas and alpacas, and then arrive at the village of Pacchanta (4,300 masl), so this small town has a hot spring that is a mandatory place to visit for relaxing our muscles after 5 days hiking and then we have some lunch and afterward our car back to Cusco city.

1. Medical Considerations
If you have medical restrictions for some or all the activities detailed in your booking. Please contact your doctor and inquire about the risks of doing said activities.
• Altitude Sickness (Soroche) and Stomach Pain
For those trekkers that come to Cusco directly from places at sea level; we recommend arriving 2-3 days before your trek. Two of the most common health issues among tourists in Cusco are Altitude Sickness (Soroche) and stomach pain provoked by slow digestion.

Some of the symptoms are headache and nausea. There are some over-the-counter medications (pills) that help to minimize the symptoms of this problem, such as Glucose Coramina, Aspirina, Diamox, Soroichi Pill, and Acetazolamide, among others. If the symptoms persist, the use of oxygen is the next step. Under these circumstances, we have the equipment and staff ready to assist our trekkers.

Stomach Pain

It is recommended to drink between 3-4 liters of water per day. Your body will need this to stay hydrated. It is especially recommended for hot drinks like coca leaves tea. Also some soups, vegetables, and carbohydrates (not fried or heavy). Candy, chocolates, cookies, and fruits are also a good options. In general, all food is easy to digest. Do not have to drink alcohol or smoke.

  • A good backpack
