Choquequirao Peru

So, we start the hike from the Andes mountains, then we arrive at the highest point of the green Andes and find this magic Inca fortress named Choquequirao, and then explore this site for a couple of hours, situated at 3,000 masl( 9,842 ft), and also located at the beginning of the amazon jungle, and afterward arriving at Machupicchu city through the green Andes mountains in Peru.

Moreover, this adventure trek Choquequirao to Machu Picchu will be at your own pace, with some free time for some photos along the route, since we will see some small Inca sites, after this big Inca fortress Choquequirao, on the way to Machu Picchu.

Also, for this adventure trekking through the brown Andes mountains and green Andes mountains, you will be carrying just a light backpack, and the rest of the heavy equipment will be carried by the horse, like camping equipment, and cooking stuff.

Itinerary For Choquequirao Trek

Day 1: Cusco- Capuliyoc– Chikiska – Playa Rosalinas

Choquequirao Trek Machu Picchu 7 Days 6 Nights is a rewarding hike for the ones, who like to be connected with nature, so the plan is to pick you up by 5:am, and then ride our car for 4 hours and arrive at Capuliyoc, located on the edge of the Apurimac canyon,  and surrounded by impressive snow-capped peaks.

Then,  we walk down for 3 hours until Chikiska, where we have our lunch, afterward, we continue our hike for an hour more to the Playa Rosalinas (1550 meters/ 5084 feet) where we camp.

• Distance: 13 km
• Difficulty: Moderate

Day 2: Playa Rosalinas– Maranpampa– Choquequiraw

We wake you up with coca tea, and then breakfast, and afterward time hike uphill to Santa Rosa, then Marampata where we will get our lunch, and the climb from the river takes about 4 hours and it is tough, also from our lunch spot, we can see the Inca remains of Choquequirao Inca fortress.

Then, we have 2 more hours to hike to reach the archeological site (3110 meters/ 10120 feet) so here we spend overnight, and maybe watching the sunset and some condors, while these birds are the biggest in the world and being its wingspan 3 meters wide when they fly.

Day 3: Choquequiraw – Pinchinuyoc

After waking you up with coca tea and breakfast we have the possibility to explore more of the archeological site, then have a little rest before lunch so, in the afternoon, we will climb over a ridge and hike to the Inca site of Pinchinuyoc where we will camp for the night (2 hours of hiking down) so this is definitely the easiest day of the trip

Day 4: Pinchinnuyoc- Rio Blanco- Maizal

After some good breakfast, we start hiking for 2 hours down and we arrive at the canyon of the Rio Blanco (1990 meters/6527 feet) where we have a rest before starting a difficult climb to our campsite of Maizal so the climb is 3- 4 hours long.

• Difficulty: Moderate and challenge

Day 5: Maizal– Yanama– Totora– Lucmabamba

We leave at 7: am after breakfast and walk uphill for about 3 hours through the semi-jungle toward Victoria, then we visit some Inca site before climbing an hour more to the pass of Victoria (4130 meters/ 13 546 feet) so there are spectacular views from the pass as we descend to the charming village of Yanama (about 2 hours walk) and follow a section with some well-constructed Inca steps.

Once we get to Yanama we take the local car to Lucmabamba through the gorgeous valley, which is the beginning of the amazon jungle, and see some waterfalls and some local villages and then granadilla fruits and camp here with tasting the cultivated coffee from the place.

• Difficulty: Moderate / Challenge

Day 6: Lucmabamba– Llactapata– Aguas Calientes Town

Time to wake you up by 5:am then some good breakfast, then we start a nice hike through the green Andes, being uphill for 3 hours and then arriving at the ridge of the mountain and some view to Machupicchu and also we visit this hidden Inca site name Llactapata located at 2,700masl with 8,907ft.

Then we hike downhill for 2 hours and see some nice waterfalls and arrive at the train station, where we have lunch, and afterward we hike through the valley of Machupicchu city to Aguas Calientes town for the overnight.

• Accommodation hostel with private bathroom and wifi then buffet breakfast and all safe accommodation

Day 7: Aguas Calientes- Machupicchu- Cusco

We wake you up at 5:am, then we take the bus to Machu Picchu since buses start leaving by 5:30 am, and takes 30 minutes up to Machupicchu and as soon as we get here we take you to the viewpoint, and after some plenty of photos, we explore the site for 2 hours and a half tour guided.

Then, we get ready to go back to Aguas Calientes town

The train ride schedule is according to the booking time so mainly include the expedition train in this price, which leaves at 4:20 pm to Ollantaytambo and any change of train category is an additional increase in price, like a Vistadome train

Itinerary Notes For Choquequirao Trekking

The times cited in this itinerary are approximate like walking times depend on the group, and the guide can change lunch spots and campsites, and depending on the progress of the group so each tour guide has their own preferred route and it might not correspond exactly to the route described here.

We do not recommend this trek during December, January, February, and March but this recommendation depend on the current weather conditions.
