Day 1: Cusco– Capulichayoc- Chiquisca– Playa Rosalina
At 5: am we will pick you up at your hotel and drive in our private van to Capuliyoc (2,850m/9,407ft) for 4 hours, having along the way rewarding views like nice farming valleys and snow-capped mountains, and once we are at Cachora we meet our horsemen and pack up all our equipment onto the horses, then hike through the Apurimac canyon and the stunning snow-capped mountains like Padreyoc (5,571m/18,387ft); then we hike down for 3 hours to Chikisca for lunch.
So in the afternoon, we hike for 2 more hours down to our first camp at la Playa Rosalina.

Day 2: Playa Rosalinas – Maranpata – Choquequirao
After an early breakfast, we cross the bridge, and then we walk for 4 hours all the way up to Marampata, where we will have some lunch enjoying the view of Choquequirao Inca ruins, after lunch, we walk to our second evening’s campsite, which is just 20 minutes from the ruins being close to the Inca fortress, so there are many possibilities to see condors and enjoy the ruins into the late evening.

Day 3: Choquequirao- Choquequirao Pass – Rio Blanco
After a delicious breakfast, we fully explore the ruins of Choquequirao (the “Cradle of Gold”), we visit the temples and palaces, then ritual water fountains and llamas’ section, and the amazing Ushnu(ceremonial platform). So in the afternoon, we climb over the ridge to the stunning Choquequirao Pass (3,277m/10,814ft), and then we descend for 2 hours towards Rio Blanco (1,990m/6,567ft) and onto the third evening’s campsite and enjoying all the great canyons and the Pinchiunuyoc Inca ruins along the way.

Day4: Rio Blanco – Maisal
After a late super breakfast, we climb up to Maisal ((3,277m/10,814ft)) enjoying the variety of micro-climates and spectacular views of canyons like rivers and stunning landscapes. Arriving at our fourth campsite.

Day 5: Maisal – Victoria Pass – Yanama
Start walking at 7:am, we walk uphill for 3 hours through semi-jungle via parts of the original Inca Highway and visit ancient mines, including the Victorias on the way to reach Victoria’s pass (4,170m/13,700f), and from here you can appreciate the great canyons and spectacular snow-capped mountains of Sacsara and Qoriwanachina then Pumasillo and afterward we descend to Yanama (3,650m/12,037ft), which is our fifth evening’s campsite.

Day 6: Yanama–Totora– Ccolpampa
A day of mountain peaks so on this day we walk for 9 hours so preferably rising early to appreciate the chain of snow peaks that can be seen from the first section of today´s trek so we ascend to the highest point of our trek: Yanama pass (4,670m/15,407ft). The view from here is amazing as we will be surrounded by snow-capped mountains and impressive valleys.
Then we descend to Totora for lunch and after that, we walk for 2 hours to Colpapampa (2,870m/9,470ft) to our sixth campsite.

Day 7: Ccolpampa- La Playa- Llactapata Inca Site
On this day we hike for 3 hours through the beginnings of the rainforest and enjoy a myriad of flora and fauna including orchids and birds, then coffee and cacao, then fruit plantations so we get to the La Playa small town (2,060m/6,797ft) for lunch with free time to rest and then we climb uphill for 3 hours through the original Inca Trail and the cloud forest up to the Puncuyoc pass.
Afterward, we keep hiking to the LLACTAPATA Inca site which is located at 2,700m/8,907ft (an Inca site located straight in front of the citadel of Machu Picchu) so here we install our third evening´s campsite with panoramic and breathtaking views.

Day 8: Llactapata – Hydroelectric- Aguas Calientes
After some breakfast, we are ready to enjoy the sunrise over Machu Picchu, then we start walking downhill for 2 hours, watching along the route we see more coffee plantations, then some waterfalls on the way to lunch, and then, we hike to Aguas Calientes through the national park of Machu Picchu, and enjoying the surroundings of the iconic Machu Picchu.

Day 9: Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu- Cusco

Trek conditions also vary according to the season. In the dry season (May – September) the trail can be very dusty and hot in the daytime and in the wet season (October – March) it can be slippery and muddy and during the shoulder season, the conditions can be variable. All year round in the mountains, the stone sliding can happen at any time, particularly after heavy rains. Chacras Travel Peru takes no responsibility for trail conditions.

This Trek is an adventurous and challenging experience, crossing several high passes, and the Rio Blanco which does not have a substantial bridge and can be a little bit dangerous to cross in periods of heavy rain. This region is not frequently visited by tourists, therefore tourist infrastructure is limited. Visitors should be aware that things change, or may not go to plan. This is all part of the adventure! We can change the date of your train ticket to the following day.
Hotels’ costs and costs associated with returning to Machu Picchu the following day are additional to trek costs. Please also note that your entry ticket to Machu Picchu is valid for one day only, if you wish to visit the ruins on a second consecutive day, you will need to purchase a new ticket again.
